The Event
Longing for some April enchantment? Come join Frolick theatre and friends as we celebrate the 30th birthday of the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies, a California-based not-for-profit organization, with a wild weekend of PSYCHEDELIC DINNER THEATRE inspired by The Chelsea Hotel of the 1970’s. Each show includes a lineup of live music, art, and speakers followed by an explosive performance of Sam Shepard and Patti Smith’s play “COWBOY MOUTH”, starring Toronto based actor/producer Matthew Krist and performance artist Shawna Willow, under the direction of Maria Wodzinska of Paris’ esteemed Lecoq school. The Friday and Saturday performances will feature an immersive, post-show live music happening where audience members are encouraged to put on a costume, rid the role of spectator and become part of the experience.
The Show
The by-product of an extended 1971 tryst between Smith and Shepard in New York’s infamous Chelsea Hotel, COWBOY MOUTH is a surreal, one-act emotional somersault that explores a day in the life of an eccentric pair of mismatched lovers as they negotiate themes of art, love, identity and disaster--all within the confines of their squalid hotel room, having become a metaphor for the universe at large. Cavale, a former mental patient with a penchant for French romanticism, has kidnapped Slim off the streets with the intention to transform him into the ultimate rock and roll saviour. The only problem? They fall in love.

Adventures in Slumberland Part 1-3 2012-2014
Frolick built the Adventures in Slumberland series as adaptations of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland comic series (1905-1915) Each episode contained giant puppets, circus tricks, music, dancing, acting, clowning and a strange encounter with Slumberland, a magical dream world of Winsor McCay's imagining. Featuring many actors and participants over the years, this excellent series was loved by thousands of guests who payed a donation to see the show. Frolick was removed by the City of Toronto and barred from creating theatre at the Lagoon Theatre in an inside move that shut down the theatre semi-permanently to be used for storage space by city camps. We are deeply saddened by City Politics.
